Welcome to Leadership for Conservation in Africa

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The purpose of the LCA is primarily to establish a link between business and conservation, by influencing both national and international business leaders to support investment in the development of Africa conservation-related resources.

National LCA Chapters are established in each of its Africa member countries, comprising of representatives of both conservation and the business communities of that particular country. Each National LCA Chapter identifies its own national conservation-led project, with the aim of protecting nature and to improve the socio-economic position of those communities living in the vicinity of conservation areas. The LCA Board, in turn, uses its influence to support and promote such conservation-led development and investment opportunities of the respective countries.

LCA 20/20 Vision

To save 20 million ha² of rainforests and selected ecosystems by the year 2020.

Mission

To harness the collective will and capacity of business and conservation leaders to focus on natural sustainability, contributing to conservation-led development specifically in Africa.

The LCA recognizes that

  • The responsibility to determine the future of Africa's natural resources rests largely with the people of Africa;
  • The centrality of sound business principles should be integrated as a core management function of conservation;
  • Natural sustainability and conservation-led development has a key role to play to secure the future for the next generation.
